Non-working public holidays in China for 2021


On November 25, 2020, the General Office of the State Council of China released its official holiday schedule for 2021.

Traditionally, the holiday schedule includes two major holidays: the Spring Festival (also known as Chinese New Year) and the National Day holiday in the People's Republic of China.

In 2021, the Spring Festival is observed from February 11 to February 17, and the National Day holiday in the People's Republic of China runs from October 1 to October 7.

According to the Chinese calendar, Chinese New Year falls on Friday, February 12, 2021. That day marks the beginning of the Year of the Ox.

Please note that some Saturdays and Sundays in China are often designated as additional official workdays to compensate for long holiday breaks.

For example, in 2021, Sunday, February 7 and Saturday, February 20 were designated as official workdays to partially make up for the seven days off for the Spring Festival.

Private companies in China, however, have the right to set their own schedules and extend the official recommendations, which means the non-working period may last significantly longer.

Our company will also be closed from February 6 to February 22, 2021.

Official Schedule of Public Holidays in China for 2021

  1. New Year's Day (New Year's Day): January 1 to January 3, 2021 (3 days in total; Friday to Sunday).
  2. Spring Festival (Spring Festival): February 11 to February 17, 2021 (7 days in total; Thursday to Wednesday).
    Adjusted workdays: February 7, 2021 (Sunday) and February 20, 2021 (Saturday).
  3. Qingming Festival (Qingming Festival): April 3 to April 5, 2021 (3 days in total; Saturday to Monday).
  4. Labor Day (Labor Day): May 1 to May 5, 2021 (5 days in total; Saturday to Wednesday).
    Adjusted workdays: April 25, 2021 (Sunday) and May 8, 2021 (Saturday).
  5. Dragon Boat Festival (Dragon Boat Festival): June 12 to June 14, 2021 (3 days in total; Saturday to Monday).
  6. Mid-Autumn Festival (Mid-Autumn Festival): September 19 to September 21, 2021 (3 days in total; Sunday to Tuesday).
    Adjusted workday: September 18, 2021 (Saturday).
  7. National Day of the People's Republic of China (National Day): October 1 to October 7, 2021 (7 days in total; Friday to Thursday).
    Adjusted workdays: September 26, 2021 (Sunday) and October 9, 2021 (Saturday).
